VIV Vertical Issogne Visey 2023: race information & review
This year I’ve decided to start the season by exploring those trails in the lower Aosta Valley that I’ve hardly ever visited in the past years. So today I found myself on the uphill paths from Issogne towards Visey, during the local vertical race.
It was a great discovery for me and I enjoyed it a lot, thanks to the beautiful sunny day and an ideal temperature for running.
Also, congratulations to the organization: really perfect.
The route: 5 km & 1000 D+
The start was given from the center of the village near the castle, directly uphill.
The first kilometer was all on the road until we reached a large group of happy children who cheered on the athletes with their typical cowbells.
Turn right and from there the ascent began on a path, clean and meticulously prepared.
The ascent followed in the woods, alternating very steep stretches with very short slight slopes.
Halfway up, after about 500 meters in altitude, we were greeted by another group of festive people with a table for a quick refreshment.
Subsequently I had the impression that the climb became less steep (then I check) and there were a couple of technical passages on iron steps on stone slabs.
After collecting about 700m of difference in altitude, the climb became steep again and continued like this until about 800m from the final finish line.
After a left turn the course became much easier and it was possible (at least for me) to race back to the finish line, greeted by several friends and spectators who had driven to Visey.
The event
For the record, the final victory (male and absolute) was obtained by Dennis Brunod in 43’03”, followed by Alex Dejanaz in 43’36” and by Lorenzo Rostagno in 44’05”.
Among the women, extraordinary performance by Benedetta Broggi (51’32”) followed by Luisa Rocchia (52’34”) and Roberta Jacquin (54’30”).
